Opening Doors’ Prosperity Project provides funding and assistance to existing and prospective small business owners in order to drive economic growth and create opportunities for businesses and individuals in our community. We are currently offering a unique internship opportunity to a highly-qualified individual with a passion for small business.
Opening Doors is undergoing a massive expansion of its microloan program, from one that serves refugee clients only to a program that provides financing to the broad cross section of Sacramento area entrepreneurs, thus filling a dire need in the area market. This is a demanding process and one in which we are all learning a great deal. We are looking for an intern to join us in navigating this critical growth phase.
We seek a well-organized, highly-motivated candidate who will become part of our team and perform such duties as: researching market conditions, competitors, potential client needs, best lending practices, loan documentation, etc. The intern will also assist in compiling information and writing program expansion business plans, funding proposals, and presentations for potential funders. The intern will devise and assist in the implementation of a small loan marketing plan suitable to the Sacramento region, and manipulate existing data models to evaluate possible approaches or plans. In addition, the intern will participate in management and/or staff team meetings and assist staff team in developing improved lending, business technical assistance provision, data collection processes, and documenting improved procedures.

Case Management Intern – Immigration Legal Services
Intern Job Description
Case Management interns report to the Director of Immigration Legal Services (ILS) and assist with case management and meeting outreach goals. The ILS Case Management intern will also have responsibilities in managing the everyday operations of the ILS program including, but not limited to, scheduling appointments, file organization, and case managing immigrants who are victims of crime.
The ILS intern’s case management duties may include, but are not limited to: contacting clients after their initial consultation to follow up with the status of their case, ensuring required documentation and activities are thorough, complete, and submitted by client, and providing on-going monitoring of client’s progress through phone calls, email exchange, and in-person meetings. Outreach duties will include updating and maintaining a database of community outreach contacts, developing letters and fact sheets and other informational materials about ILS services for outreach purposes, and Ensuring timely follow up to all inquiries and meetings.
ILS interns are responsible for understanding program objectives including a basic understanding of the immigration services offered by Opening Doors. Applicants must be fluent in written and spoken Spanish, possess excellent verbal communication skills, and be willing to work in fast-paced environment.

Case Management Intern – Refugee Resettlement
Intern Job Description
Opening Doors’ Refugee Resettlement Program helps those who have been forced to flee their home countries remake their lives in our community. This year, approximately 150 refugees will come to Sacramento through Opening Doors. The goal of Opening Doors' Refugee Resettlement Program is to assist our clients with all aspects of resettlement and integration into a new country and new way of life.
Case Management interns work with refugees and gain casework skills as well as advocacy experience. Additionally, interns are exposed to the social welfare system and are taught how to manage client cases. Interns will also be exposed to numerous opportunities to strengthen language skills and further multicultural awareness. Applicants must be able to deal with confidential information, possess excellent interpersonal skills, and be preferably bilingual.

Case Management Intern – Survivors of Human Trafficking
Intern Job Description
The Case Management intern in the Survivors of Human Trafficking program (SOT) responds to both emergency and non-emergency calls from victims of human trafficking. Interns with the language capacity of the victim may also be asked to provide translations during a client’s initial screening. The Case Management intern effectively supports existing relationships with referral organizations and agencies throughout the related anti-trafficking fields. Additionally, the intern assists clients of Opening Doors in all capacities outlined in the program manual as requested by case managers.

Communications Intern
Intern Job Description
Opening Doors’ Communications intern will have a key role in developing and maintaining both internal and external organizational communications. She or he will participate in strategic communications planning, in writing and/or designing organizational collateral, and in coordinating and carrying out outreach projects.
The Communications intern will have primary responsibility for maintaining the agency’s website and social networking pages (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), in addition to developing organizational print media (such as pamphlets and brochures). The Communications intern will be responsible for publishing Opening Doors’ bi-monthly newsletter and managing the Google AdWords campaigns. He or she will interface with agency staff and interns to identify topics for newsletter and website articles, and will work on articles from conception to publication.
During the first three months, the intern will be mentored by the current communication intern; then he or she will assist with recruiting, interviewing, and selecting a new communications intern. During the final three months, the intern would mentor the new Communications intern.

Grant Writing Intern

Explore practical applications for your writing skills and offer valuable assistance to a multicultural Sacramento nonprofit and its human trafficking, refugee, and other low-income clients.
Opening Doors seeks candidates with excellent writing skills for its Grant-writing internship. Opening Doors’ grant writing intern will have a key role in developing and maintaining the organization’s development efforts. The intern will work closely with the deputy director and program staff, researching funding opportunities and potential funders, and developing grant proposals. The intern will also maintain agency records which track research on funders and the status of submitted proposals.
This unpaid position will provide the intern with experience in every aspect of the grant-writing process. Interns will receive extensive writing experience and ample opportunity for feedback on their written work. The position requires a commitment of 360 hours, generally 24 15-hour weeks (or approximately 6 months).

MoneyWork$ Intern
Intern Job Description
MoneyWork$ interns have a wide range of responsibilities from assisting staff in reaching out to the target communities with information about MoneyWork$, helping to create or modify printed and website materials, attending outreach events with staff, and making follow-up telephone calls. As a MoneyWork$ intern, you will assist staff with curriculum adjustments or modifications, and assist in preparing for, then setting up and carrying out evening classes. During class sessions, you will take detailed notes and type up those notes to provide to participants who missed the session. After sessions, you will review and evaluate participant homework assignments, provide feedback, and record scores. In addition, you will maintain records of class and support group participation, coaching sessions, and participant milestones reached. You will perform research as needed for our classes on various topics such as new credit card legislation or retirement savings plans. Additionally, you will take a primary role in planning and executing events, including the program graduation ceremony.
MoneyWork$ interns gain a real world understanding of personal finances, as they come to know our clients’ issues and difficulties as well as their successes. Because class sessions are taught by industry experts, interns (as well as staff) learn a great deal about the financial system. Interns also gain valuable writing, communication and Excel skills. They work in a busy, sometimes hectic environment and meet many other interesting interns and staff members.
We are looking for 2 new interns. One intern needs to be fluent in Spanish.

Survivors of Human Trafficking Intern
Intern Job Description
The Intern in the Survivors of Human Trafficking program (SOT) reports to both the Director and Program Associate. The intern is responsible for assisting with coordinating and meeting outreach goals, and if appointed, to assume the leadership role in guiding the projects designated to them within the SOT program.
It is the SOT intern’s responsibility to plan and develop activities as assigned by the Director or Program Associate. The main planning, development, and evaluation functions include: Organizing and coordinating SOT outreach and trainings with social service agencies and interested parties in Sacramento and the surrounding counties; maintaining public relations, including participating in community events, tabling, and providing trainings to student groups; and researching and applying for appropriate public and private funding sources, including the State of California, the Federal agencies concerned with survivors of trafficking services, and other social service agencies.

Volunteer Management Intern
Intern Job Description
Interns focus on recruiting and managing local volunteers. They build relationships with the volunteers, and foster community outreach, organization, and supervision skills. In addition, the Volunteer Management interns may be involved with small scale event planning and will work with the Office Manager to coordinate volunteer activities.
